Outside of Japan, M3 Sakura refers to the Nintendo DS custom firmware developed by the M3 team in collaboration with Infantile Paralysiser - also known as Moonlight - who is a freelance developer of homebrewed software. M3 Sakura, or also known as Moonshell v.2, was intended for use with DS flashcart products M3 DS Real, M3i Zero, and M3 Sakura (Japan-only release). Usually, a dual-boot bundle comes with Touchpod, which is another DS firmware created by the M3 team. The Sakura firmware has an integrated media player that plays music and video files in several formats, including DPG and DSM video, AAC, MP3, OGG and MOD. The player also displays text files and images in JPEG, BMP, GIF and PNG formats. Other features of the Sakura firmware include creating backups of each game and restoring them to a specific point in the game.
