Alfresco is an open source enterprise content management platform developed by Alfredo Software, Inc. to automate document-intensive business transactions and processes. It organizes and stores documents related to organizational procedures, encompassing methods, strategies, and tools used throughout the file’s lifecycle. Users can use the Alfresco platform to build, extend, or customize their applications. It is available in three formats : the Alfredo Community Edition (free software), Alfresco Enterprise Edition that is commercially and proprietary licensed, and the Alfresco Cloud Edition – a SaaS version of Alfresco. Alfresco Enterprise Extensions provide support for the on-premise users who manage corporate records (5015.2 certification), learning management systems, and image management. It also provides an out-of-the-web portal framework, a web content management system, and a CIFS interface that are compatible with files created from Microsoft Windows and UNIX-like operating systems. The Cloud Edition offers on-line collaboration and file sharing in the cloud. Alfresco integrates with MS Office, Adobe Creative Suite, Apple iWork, and Google Docs.
