Also called as Mail.app, Apple Mail is an email application that is integrated on Mac OS X computers. It was originally created and launched by NeXT, which was called as NeXTMail by then, but adapted by Apple for OS X operating system. This program mainly relies on three types of protocols which are SMTP, IMAP and POP3. It also supports other instant messaging applications such as AOL, Yahoo! Mail, Gmail and even MobileMe and Exchange through IMAP. The latest version available for download is Mail version 5 which was first introduced with Mac OS X 10.7 or Lion. This version has new and enhanced features such as the fullscreen user interfact that is similar to iPad, a unique message search interface, group message option by Subject and the support for IMAP Yahoo! Mail and Microsoft Exchange Server 2010. Messages sent and received using this version are in plain text format, but there is an option to formal when using an email through the text edition tools.
