BBS or Bulletin Board System is a software that connects and logs in to a system using a terminal program. When logged in, users can upload and download data including, read latest news and bulletins, and message other users through e-mail, message boards, and chatting. Access for BBS was originally through a modem connected to a phone line. During the 90’s, BBS could already be accessed through Telnet, packet switched network, or packet radio connection. The Bulletin Board System works just like the traditional bulletin board, only the method of communicating is computerized, this is where the name Computerized Bulletin Board System (CBBS) was derived. BBS was run by the system operator (SysOp) free of charge, while other BBS charged subscription fees for access, and some were operated by businesses for supporting customer needs. The Bulletin board systems was very similar the World Wide Web, social networking services and other programs and sites from the Internet.
