The Macromedia FlashPaper Document is stored in the MFP format and is affixed with the MFP extension and is used by Macromedia FlashPaper. These MFP files are generally classified as data files that contain printed file or document which can be exported as Flash or Adobe Portable Document to be shared across the Web or for local use. These files have a well-established Application Programming Interface that enables managing the viewed documents using ActionScript, an object oriented language. The Macromedia FlashPaper software application acts like a virtual printer which can be installed as a standalone Windows program or a Microsoft Office plug-in. To convert a FlashPaper document to an SWF or PDF file, the Select Printer option of the FlashPaper Window must be accessed. Adobe Systems, the owner of FlashPaper already discontinued the software development in 2008 and will continue to support the existing version. The Macromedia FlashPaper software can be used in Microsoft Windows to access and view MFP files

Macromedia FlashPaper

Macromedia FlashPaper

Originally known as Flash Printer, Macromedia FlashPaper was later retooled as a virtual printing solution under the Adobe brand. Generally, users can convert a DOC, XLS, or PPT document into a PDF or SWF by dragging it into the software interface, by sending the printable file to Adobe for online conversion, or by exporting the document from within Microsoft Office applications. Hyperlinks must be inserted into Word or Excel documents before they're exported as compressed SWF files. In addition, password protection may be configured for the final outputs. Usually, SWF files are loaded into Macromedia Flash using ActionScript codes. Loading SWF documents as sprites into Director requires familiarity with Lingo scripts and an installation of Contribute 2.01 Updater that automatically updates FlashPaper and its API. After development support for FlashPaper halted in 2008, Adobe continued to market the product as a stand-alone program while providing technical support to existing users.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .mfp files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .mfp. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
