.trm File Extension

Developer: ForTheRecord
File type: FTR Media File
You're here because you have a file that has a file extension ending in .trm. Files with the file extension .trm can only be launched by certain applications. It's possible that .trm files are data files rather than documents or media, which means they're not meant to be viewed at all.

what is a .trm file?

An FTR media file is classified as an audio data file that can be created using the ForTheRecord software, which is also called FTR. These FTR media files are implemented with audio data encoding specifications proprietary to ForTheRecord, and these custom encoding specifications make it possible for these FTR media files to be saved in the TRM format. Affixed with the .trm extension, these FTR media files can also be encrypted with proprietary encryption technology built into the ForTheRecord TheRecord Manager software, and a password can be generated by this application for an FTR media file, so users with the correct password will be the only ones who can access the content of these FTR media files. This is because these FTR media files are used as recordings of courtroom testimonies and proceedings. These FTR media files can also be played using the ForTheRecord TheRecord Player software, a digital audio player freeware implemented with playback support for these TRM files. The ForTheRecord FTR Gold software can also be used to export these FTR media files into other widely used audio data file formats.

ForTheRecord TheRecord Player

ForTheRecord TheRecord Player

ForTheRecord TheRecord Player is featured in all FTR products, and this software can be downloaded for free. It can play, share and duplicate content stored as digital recordings. Its target users are those who need to save, store and listen to court recordings, such as judges, court clerks, attorneys and transcribers. It has functions similar to those of a tape recorder, in which its main features include audio-video playback, 4-channel isolation, compliance with Section 508 [USA], Windows 7 compatibility, individual speed control and channel volume. This program can quickly save particular ranges of recordings and is implemented with a rapid search function. Duplicating and loading content, as well as the elimination of inaccurate index numbers through actual time referencing are also available in this program. Additional features include full control of master volume and individual channel volume settings. Individual channel isolation is also provided by this software, so users can eliminate talk-over noise. Foot control support is also integrated into this software. FTR player reads TRM files that are recorded using TheRecord Manager.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .trm files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .trm. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
