what is a .svd file?

A Roland patch file contains audio data associated to the content used by certain digital keyboard synthesizers manufactured and marketed by Roland. These Roland patch files are integrated with audio data compilation specifications proprietary to Roland, which make it possible for fine-tuned digitally synthesized instrument audio output to be stored in these Roland patch files and patched unto these supported digital keyboard synthesizers for these devices to implement these functionalities into its system. These Roland patch files are also used for storing instrument-specific audio output configurations and sound effects that can be implemented into these synthesized instrument audio output settings. The encoding standards integrated into these Roland patch files are used for the SVD file format, which means these Roland patch files are stored in the SVD format and are affixed with the .svd extension. A USB key is required to load the content of these Roland patch files unto supported digital keyboard synthesizers from Roland.

Roland XV Editor

Roland XV Editor

Roland XV Editor is used for controlling and editing all the parameters on Roland XV Series Synthesizers through MIDI using a GUI interface on a computer. The tones, patches, rhythms and performances of the Roland XV may be created and edited using a system of sliders and graphical tools. Users can mix 32 channels like panning and effects, edit patches, while within the performance mode, and it can edit all parameters of all the four tones in a patch simultaneously. It features a Patch Librarian which saves patches to librarian files for quick browsing of patches and notes in the library and it also features Patch Genetics which has a random patch generator used in mixing and morphing for creating numerous patches. It has a comprehensive implementation of SYSEX, support for all Roland Expansion boards like SRX and SR-JV80, and it can edit every single parameter of all 96 multieffects in detail. These multieffects has a librarian with the Multieffects, Reverb and Chorus Librarian used for saving effect settings and applying them to Performances, Rhythms and Patches using just one click. It also features custom kits for mixing and matching rhythm waveforms to be saved in the Rhythm Key Tone Librarian. This software has a 32-bit architecture and a GUI interface that integrates with the synthesizers.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .svd files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .svd. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
