You're here because you have a file that has a file extension ending in .dia. Files with the file extension .dia can only be launched by certain applications. It's possible that .dia files are data files rather than documents or media, which means they're not meant to be viewed at all.
what is a .dia file?
Vector image files known as Dia diagram files are saved in the DYA format and are used by the DYA software. These vector image files are appended with the .dya extension, and the content of these DYA files consist of digital visual elements, text and objects created and implemented by the author of the DYA file. These digital objects and elements comprise diagrams that can be used for presentations and reports. XML-based encoding specifications and ZIP compression standards are integrated into the content of these DYA files. DYA developed the .dya file format and the DYA software for Unix-based systems. These DYA files are also implemented with support for conversion or exportation to different image file formats like PNG, EPS and FIG among other vector image formats, and exporting these DYA files to these other formats can be done using the DYA application. This means DYA users of Unix-based systems can share their exported DYA files to other Microsoft Windows and Mac users who have digital vector image authoring and editing applications with support for these other file formats.

Originally developed by Alexander Larsson, Dia is diagramming software. A group of developers has maintained the software like Hans Breuer, Steffen Macke, and Sameer Sahasrabuddhe. It is used in drawing many kinds of diagrams and has special features helping you create diagrams for entity relationship, UML, flowcharts, networks and many more. A modular design is created in various shape packages to aid you in drawing diagrams, and allows you to freely use symbols and connectors. Through writing simple XML files, Dia add supports using a subset of SVG in drawing new shapes. You can also load and save your diagrams into XML format, export diagrams in various formats like EPS, WMF, SVG, XFIG, VDX, JPEG, CGM, DXF and PNG. You can also print the diagrams for it uses a controlled CSDI like GIMP and Inkscape. Dia runs with Unix-like, Windows and Mac OS. It is written in C but it can also be written in Python.
Be careful not to rename the extension on .dia files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.
what is a file extension?
A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .dia. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
