VirtualDrive disc image part files are affixed with the .d01 extension, and the audio data encoding specifications and standards that were implemented into the D01 file format were developed by FarStone Technology. The content of D01 file is part of an entire disc image that has been split into multiple packages using the VirtualDrive software. This is a program that is generally classified as a disc imaging and burning application. The rest of the .d01 files that make up the entire split disk image are given the file extensions ".d00," ".d02," and so on. These files are used as backup copies and for mounting disc images unto virtual drives, and this application allows users to create up to 23 virtual drives. Backup copy generation for CD/DVD/Blu-ray discs and sharing mounted CD/DVD images across the network are among the features that are integrated into this program.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .d01 files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .d01. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
