Yamaha MidRadio Player

Yamaha MidRadio Player

The Yamaha MidRadio Player is synthetic music software capable of playing standard MIDI (MID), Wave (WAV), and MP3 files as well as compressed audio streams in SoundVQ (VQF) and SMAF (MMF) formats. The last two mentioned are proprietary music formats developed and distributed by Yamaha Corporation. Older versions of the player work with Windows 98/Me/2000/XP while version 7.x or higher has been updated for installation in Windows 7 and Vista. These two versions are available as freeware at a Yamaha-owned Japanese site. The software has default add-ins for displaying text or chords as the music plays. These are needed when the player connects to PasoKara Hodai, a Yamaha-owned membership site that streams karaoke songs on demand. After each song ends, the player displays a small group of animated characters cheering or booing based on the singer's score flashing above their heads.

a word of warning

Be careful not to rename the extension on .c01 files, or any other files. This will not change the file type. Only special conversion software can change a file from one file type to another.

what is a file extension?

A file extension is the set of three or four characters at the end of a filename; in this case, .c01. File extensions tell you what type of file it is, and tell Windows what programs can open it. Windows often associates a default program to each file extension, so that when you double-click the file, the program launches automatically. When that program is no longer on your PC, you can sometimes get an error when you try to open the associated file.
