Here’s some valuable insight into the importance of keeping the software running on your PC up to date!
Google recently announced that it will commence phasing out support for Microsoft’s IE6 browser, and that from 1st of March 2010 some of its services, such as Google Docs, would not work “properly” with the browser. The main reason behind the decision is cited to be a security flaws in the Microsoft browser, which Microsoft claims to have released an update that will plug the hole. This highlight a major problem that many computer users are unaware of. Many computer user’s don’t know that hackers often use security flaws in common software such as web browsers, chat clients and email programs to hack into their computers and install malware such as spyware and adware – which can greatly affect the performance of their PC or even worse, lead to identity theft. This is why it’s so important to ensure that you keep the software you are running on your PC up to date. Many software publishers offer an “update” function or “version” display to show if your software is up to date. However, not all products have this functionality.
If you are not sure where to find your version status or update function, you can contact your software manufacturer. Alternaively, ReviverSoft’s has included a unique feature in it’s Driver Reviver product that checks the status of most of the popular software applications available. After performing a scan, not only will you see your out of date drivers, but you will also see the status of the software you have installed on your PC. If any software is out of date, you can quickly and easily download the up to date software directly from the original manufacturers website, and install it to update your software.
This move by Google proves that “even if it doesn’t appear to be broken, you really should still fix it”.
